Star Tasmanian three year old filly Speedy Sky came home strongly, in yesterdays listed Tasmanian Oaks, to finish third just a few lengths behind the Lee Freedman trained Marchelle Belle. It not only provided trainer Elesha Pilgrim with another stakes placing it also symbolised her coming of age as a major player amongst Tasmanian trainers. Speedy Sky was one of only three Tasmanian trained fillies in the 10 horse Oaks field and finished closest to the winner. The cream of Tasmania's trainers were unable to provide any stronger firepower against Marchelle Belle, who has won her last five races and was once touted by Freedman as a Victorian Oaks prospect prior to a setback last preparation. “She has been a work in progress because she fractured her nearside
shoulder before the Spring last season when we had her in our top three or
four Oaks-type fillies so she's done a great job to come back and win
five straight”, said Freedman. Trainer Elesha Pilgrim This Wednesday Elesha will once again fly the flag against the big Victorian stables in the Shaw Magic Millions Two Year Old Classic with Our Super.
"Our Super is in a very strong race but has drawn a good barrier for
the first time this preparation and is a good place chance", said Pilgrim. However, it is not just Pilgrim's stakes runners that are testament to her training ability it is also her astonishing winning percentage this season of 19.6%. This percentage compares very favourably against premier Tasmanian trainers Charlie Goggin and David Brunton on 17.6% and 12.3% respectively.
