Araya on a Hot Streak PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 24 July 2009

The much anticipated winning streak of Araya's has finally eventuated.

The Ken Hanson trained Araya finished her last preparation with some very stylish runs in feature races over the summer carnival and looked set to fly through her grades in the winter.

However four starts in, and despite some bold runs, Araya remained a class one filly.

Meeting considerably weaker fields and being beaten by lengths, not inches, it appeared the wheels had fallen off.

Hanson however remained positive and found the winning formula as Araya notched her first win for the prep with a hard fought victory over 1200m on the new Launceston track.

"She really relishes the 1200m distance, all of her wins have come around that mark", said Hanson.

Not wanting to mess with a winning formula Hanson proceeded to give the filly three weeks between her runs and line her up in a very similar race last Sunday.

"It looked almost the same on paper, except I didn't have Jason in the saddle", said Hanson referring to the change of jockey which left Lincoln Coffey on board.

Everything went to plan and Araya again should a strong resolve to hold off her competitors and secure her second win on the trot.

"I was very pleased with the run, all of my horses are racing to their ability and my grandson (Jason Maskiell) is kicking goals interstate, what more could i ask for!", joked Hanson, who managed to score another training double on the day.

The Tamar team moved another three points ahead of the Derwent team who were unable to manage a placing on the day.
